It looks as though MTV's The State will finally be out on DVD after an incredibly long delay. Cast members of the mid-nineties cult sketch comedy show will reunite for a Comedy Central special to coincide with the fall DVD release.
Fans of The State can bide their time by rewatching The Ten, or by consuming $240 worth of pudding.

Happy Pride Month! Amazon.com is kicking off the festivities with a big gay sale that includes discounts on movies, music, and jewelry.
Points of interest (my interest, anyway) include the complete series of My So-Called Life for nearly half off, and gems like Angels in America, Shortbus, and Paul Morrissey's Flesh.

Hollywood Newsroom has an interesting article chronicling the troubled history of Disney's upcoming Tinkerbell DVD, which will tell the origin story of the iconic Peter Pan fairy. Disney has ditched Brittany Murphy for the title role in favor of Mae Whitman, better known as the voice of Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender.
The article also includes a clip from the film, which at first glance might appear to be in the same vein as the plasticly girly Barbie movies. I'm detecting a bit of Pixar-style humor, though, so Tinkerbell may well be worth the wait.

The Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay DVD will include a "Dude, Change the Movie!" special feature, allowing viewers to opt for alternate scenes in "realtime," Choose-Your-Own-Adventure-style. It'll be sort of like the Final Destination 3 DVD, except probably less terrible and awful. Expect the release on July 29th.

British cult comedy series Spaced will receive a DVD release in North America this July, which will include multiple commentaries from people I'm pretty sure had nothing to do with the show, such as Quentin Tarantino and Diablo Cody. Go figure.
Plans are also in the works for an American remake of Spaced, to the dismay of the show's original creators who were never even consulted.

Kill Bill does lend itself rather well to anime...and Tarantino is reportedly working on a new anime short to complement his epic kung-fu revenge duology.
According to Uma Thurman, it sounds like an animated short centered on the character of Bill will be incorporated into an upcoming DVD release which will include both volumes of the Kill Bill saga.

The American remake of Japanese thriller One Missed Call was not really that great, a completely unexpected development that has left me flabbergasted with actual genuine surprise.
Fortunately, a few lucky people will gain the privilege of owning the DVD released yesterday without having to actually fork over any cash. Warner Brothers is giving away free copies of the movie to three sweepstakes winners. Oh, and there's a Blu-Ray player in the mix as well if that interests you.
Go ahead! Enter! Seriously, the movie's not really that bad. There's...like...Margaret Cho is in it for a few minutes? So that's something.

The first season of the Saturday morning Spielberg classic Freakazoid! will at long last be released on DVD. The cartoon stars the zany superhero alter-ego of a socially inept nerd, and it's chock full of non sequitur humor and pop culture references, plus plenty of pre-scandal Clinton jokes.
The DVD will be released on July 29th, the same date as the first season of Tiny Toon Adventures.

This week I venture back into my 80's horror stack of DVDs for the delightful cheese-fest Dolls.
I remember watching this movie on a saturday afternoon on the channel 20 horror movie double feature. Ah memories.
Any movie about killer toys is bound to be brilliant fun and Dolls is certainly no exception.
It's a cornball, silly, gory movie from Stuart Gordon, the man behind Reanimator.
Its a pretty standard "people get stranded and stumble upon a creepy old house" story but despite the cheese factor its still an enjoyable watch.
Perfect for a midnight movie fest if you ask me.
Enjoy!

As something of a movie nerd, I've discovered that I enjoy the new blog at the Criterion Collection website, On Five, which gives a little peak into how those perfect, perfect little video packages come together.
Want to know why their Berlin Alexanderplatz is a half-hour longer than the European version? Want to know how the cover art was designed? Now you can!
But they've gone totally meta this week, as part of their drool-inducing buildup to the Ice Storm DVD, with a look behind the scenes of the making of their look behind the scenes of the film. That's right, it's the making of the making-of. Check it out. The best part is the inclusion of a deleted scene from the making-of, in which Kevin Kline apologizes for, basically, sabotaging his amazing 70s costumes. Bastard! Well, good to hear he's had a change of heart.

It's unfortunate that I Could Never Be Your Woman never managed to get a theatrical release, because it's quite a doozy. Writer/director Amy Heckerling reunited several Clueless alumni for this breezy yet unconventional romantic comedy, released on DVD just last week.
Michelle Pfeiffer plays a forty-something TV writer who falls for a prankish young actor, played by my husband Paul Rudd. While struggling with issues of jealousy, youth, and the burgeoning puberty of her teenage daughter, Pfeiffer is town between the allure of Rudd's boyish advances and the cynical observations of Tracey Ullman as a pessimistic Mother Nature.
Heckerling earned her keep with 1995's Clueless, and Woman is likewise sprinkled with pleasant nostalgia from the nineties and beyond. The Cure dominates the film's soundtrack, along with a re-lyricized version of Alanis's "Ironic," a hyperactive, digitized "I Wanna Be Sedated," and the one-hit-wonder title track. Pfeiffer and Rudd are lovely as usual, and such a colorful supporting cast...Jon Lovitz, Henry Winkler, Fred Willard, and Graham Norton all make appearances, along with Clueless's Stacey Dash and Wallace Shawn.
Woman's plot isn't terribly complex, but meanders through the ups and downs of unlikely relationships while staying believable, engaging, and feelgood throughout. A strong cast and great writing make this a solid film that didn't get anywhere near the brouhaha it deserves.

Aachi and Ssipak is an animated South Korean movie from 2006 that involves euphoric popsicles, cyborgs, pornographers, Smurfs, and poop.
Have I got your attention? Well, I hate to disappoint, but it's not necessarily as awesome as it sounds. Make the jump for the full review.
And girls who like girls who like stuff!
